I know him. I don't know if anyone should put his trust in him, but for what it's worth: Rip will do what he deems necessary and he generally has intentions that you'd classify as "good". The way there might not be.

I mean, he recruited me, so that's bad by definition.

But in your case, he probably sees you as a person rather than largely an inconvenience, so you can trust him more. He is from the future. He's lied to us about the future before. He's also told the truth.

He lied to get us all to go along with his mission. He cleared things up when confronted. He's quick to make sacrifices, but he'd also sacrifice himself for the sake of his mission. He wants to be a good man, but he wants to see his mission through more. He's still a Time Master, even if he's a rogue one, and so he puts worries over the timeline over sentimental value.
